The advancement of information in communication has opened windows to more efficient dissemination of information. For decades, the timber industry has played an important role in the socioeconomic development in this country. The timber industry has become the main contributor to the country’s export revenue. Malaysian wood and wood products especially furniture has been exported to over 160 countries around the world. The timber sector also provides employment to about 240,000 workers and as to date there are about 3,500 number of mills still in operation.

With MTIB’s mission to enhance the sustainable growth of the Malaysian timber industry through the provision of a conducive environment and continuous extension of quality services to be the prime agency instrumental for the development of a competitive timber industry, it is as such, right and timely that MTIB upgrades its portal in order for people not only in Malaysia but throughout the world, to be acquainted with our wood based industry.

I hope with this fresh outlook of MTIB portal will encourage more viewers to make use of this portal as their reference point not only in matters related to timber but also to know more on MTIB's latest activities and products. Thus, it is my hope that MTIB portal will serve as a useful reference for the latest and most comprehensive information on timber industry in Malaysia.
