Certified Timber Suppliers and Treaters

LIST OF CERTIFIED TIMBER SUPPLIERS AND TREATERS (CST)

What is "CST"?
List of Certified Timber Suppliers and Treaters, abbreviated as CST is a special listing of selected suppliers and treaters of timber in particular sawntimber, who have succesfully complied with the requirements of a Quality Assurance Scheme (QAS) implemented by MTIB.

The QAS was established by MTIB in collaboration with FRIM following the aftermath of the JKR suspension on use of timber for roof trusses. One of the main concerns of JKR (and PAM as well) was with regard to the quality of timber that are supplied for construction projects in the domestic market.

An idea was mooted to establish a QAS and register suppliers and treaters who could comply with the requirement of the QAS. JKR, PAM and CIDB are committed to make a purchasing decision limiting to source timber that supplied by suppliers listed in the CST

How many categories of applications in this scheme?
There are two categories involved in the QAS CST ie. Timber Suppliers and Timber Treaters.

Who can apply?
Companies producing sawn timber can apply to be registered as Timber suppliers and those treating sawn timber (with treatment plant) can apply to be registered as Timber Treaters.

How to apply?
Application can be made at anytime by filling in the application form that can be downloaded from the MTIB website at http://www.mtib.gov.my or it can be obtained from Industry Development and Research Division, MTIB Kuala Lumpur. The application form is given free of charge.

The completed application form, together with the supporting documents, must be sent to the Industry Development and Research Division, MTIB Kuala Lumpur.

DETAILS & CONDITIONS

What are terms and conditions apply?
Terms and conditions, and the applications forms for each category are stated as follow :
1.1 Supplier
1.1.1 Definition
  Supplier in this context means a company that supplies timber.
1.1.2 Timber Supplied
  Timber, whether treated or untreated that is supplied by the timber supplier and treater as listed in the List of Certified Timber Suppliers and Timber Treaters .
1.1.3 Application for Registration
  Applications can be made by completing the registration form for timber supplier; MTIB/QAS/CST-1 (Appendix I )
1.1.4 Requirements for registration as supplier
 
  1. Company must own a sawmill
  2. Company must possess a minimum of one band saw
  3. Company must be registered with the State Forest Department.
  4. Company must be registered with The Registration of Business (ROB) or Registration of Company (ROC)
  5. Member of Malaysian Wood Industries Association (MWIA) or Persatuan Pengusaha Kayu Kayan dan Perabot Bumiputera Malaysia (PEKA)
1.1.5 Reference Documents required during audit process
 
  1. Employee's records (biodata, academic qualification, training and experience)
  2. Production records (date, timber name, size, moisture content, grading summary)
  3. Invoice record (date, size, grade, quantity, consignee's address)
  4. Other Quality Control System (if any) - a present quality system being used by the company to give a guaranty for the timber supplied
1.2 Treater
1.2.1 Definition
  Treater in this context means a company carrying out treatment activities for timber.
1.2.2 Application for Registration
  Application can be made by completing the registration form for timber treater MTIB/QAS/CST-2 (Appendix II)
1.2.3 Requirements for registration as treater
 
  1. Company must own a treatment plant with the requisite treatment facilities
  2. Company must be registered with State Forest Department
  3. Company must be registered with The Registration of Business (ROB) or The Registration of Company (ROC)
  4. Member of Malaysian Wood Preserving Association(MWPA)
1.2.4 Reference Documents required during audit process
 
  1. Employee's record (biodata, academic qualification training as well as experience)
  2. Record of chemicals used in treatment : purchase records (date, type, quantity, supplier) Record of usage and disposal (date, quantity)
  3. Treatment process (charge sheet, timber name, size, moisture content)
  4. Delivery order (date, size, timber name, class of commodity and quantity)
  5. Invoice record (date, size, timber name, class of commodity and quantity)
  6. Operation manual of treatment chamber
  7. Treatment chamber maintenance records
  8. Other Quality Control System (it any) - a quality system being used to give a guarantee for quality of timber supplied
Application to be listed as Timber Supplier and Treater
Application can be made by completing the form MTIB/QAS/CST-1 for Timber Supplier and/or MTIB/QAS/CST-2 for Timber Treater, whichever is applicable and submit together with the required documents to :
