DISTRIBUTION
Found in lowland forests.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The sapwood is not differentiated from the heartwood, which is pink brown to orangebrown.

Grain is fairly straight.

Texture is medium to coarse and uneven.

Growth rings are indistinct.

Vessels medium-sized to large; mostly solitary with occasional radial pairs; widely spaced with suggestion of tangential arrangement; tyloses sparse or absent; white deposits in vessels common.

Wood parenchyma abundant; mainly short apotracheal bands which are thick and bridging a few rays at a time. Paratracheal type also present as narrow borders around the vessels.

Rays of two distinct sizes, the fine rays are barely visible even with a hand lens; the broad rays are distinct and produce a conspicuous silver figure on the radial surface.

Ripple marks are absent.

Intercellular canals are absent.

USES
Used for heavy and medium construction under cover, fence posts, walking sticks and tool handles.
