Sungkai (Peronema canescens Jack), Verbenaceae, is one of the decorative woods in Malaysia. It is suitable for plantation as it has long, straight stems which are suitable for producing various ranges of products. Sungkai is regenerated by applying the cuttings method rather than by planting the seeds, as it does not depend on the fruit season. For these reasons, sungkai can be a successful plantation species – a future plantation species.
