  1. WOOD-BASED INDUSTRY APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME - FURNITURE

 

- The Wood Based Industry Apprenticeship Scheme is a structured programme, which provides an excellent career opportunity to school leavers/ Who are interested to pursue a career in wood based industry..

Qualifications: :-

  1. The targeted group is post-PMR / SPM.
  2. Apprentices must pass in Mathematics and English.

Curriculum :-

Training provider and employer sponsors must use the curriculum provided by PSMB. The curriculum was developed by PSMB with the cooperation of the Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) after a survey of the needs of the industry. Field is meant is: -

  1. a) Phase 1 - Furniture Production Operation ( 8 Months)
  2. b) Phase 2 - Furniture Production Line Leader (8 months)

In general, the scheme consists of 30% theory and 70% practical training

Certification:

Having successfully occupy the competency test conducted by the Department of Skill Development (DSD), an apprentice shall be awarded the Malaysian Skills Certificate Level 1 and Level 2.

Training Fees :-

Training fees will be paid by PSMB under Apperantice Fund. The fund is embodied to help employers, particularly small medium entrepenuer. However, the employer must first be registered with PSMB.

 

Monthly Allowance :-

Apprentices are eligible for a monthly allowance of RM350.00 to RM500.00 from the sponsoring employer.

  1. Wood Drying Course

- This course is recommended jointly by MTIB, Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Participants will be awarded qualification certificate / Competencies.

YOUTH TRAINING PROGRAMME

(UNDEVELOPED TRAINING MODULE BY MTIB)

  1. CERTIFICATE IN FURNITURE DESIGN AND MAKING (FDM)

The Furniture Design and Making (FDM) is a programme which offers industrial skills training and knowledge on the wood-based industry to young designers and fresh graduates.

Upon completing the programme, trainees will be able to contribute professionally towards sustaining the growth of the Malaysian wood-based industry.

The objectives of the programme are as follows:

  1. To provide higher employability in the wood-based industry for graduates.
  2. To provide enhanced career growth for graduates.
  3. To provide industry knowledge and skills through hands-on training; and
  4. To provide the large pools of designers in the timber industry.

Entry requirements:-

  1. Diploma or Bachelor�s Degree in furniture design.
  2. Age between 18 to 25 years.
  3. Has strong interest in the field and has intention to work with the industry or wish to be an entrepreneur.

Competencies Module:-

The programme is structured for attainment of specific competencies. Details of the module is as below:-

MTIB and the industry.

Fully Sponsored Programme

Training fees are fully sponsored by MTIB. This includes registration, accommodation and transport. A subsistence allowance is

also provided for

all participants.

  1. PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (PMD)

The Professional Management Development Programme (PMD) is a programme which offers industrial skills training and knowledge on the wood-based industry to young executives and fresh graduates. The structured practical training also involves exposure to business practices in the industry.

Upon completing the programme, trainees will be able to contribute professionally towards sustaining the growth of the Malaysian wood-based industry.

The objectives of the programme are as follows:-

  1. To provide higher employability in the wood-based industry for graduates.
  2. To provide enhanced career growth for young executives.
  3. To provide industry knowledge and skills through hands-on training; and
  4. To produce supervisory and managerial skills in managing the competitive timber industry

Entry requirements:-

  1. Diploma or Bachelor�s Degree in any field.
  2. Has strong interest in the field and has intention to work with the industry or wish to be an entrepreneur.

The Certificate in Timber Processing and Finishing Technology (TPF) is a programme which provides an avenue for youths to enhance skills and knowledge on the wood- based industry. The intensive hands-on training provides a structured skills enhancement programme and is designed to produce competent, effective and skilled workforce to support the nation�s growing wood-based industry.

The objectives of the programme are as follows:-

  1. To provide career opportunities for PMR/SPM/SPMV leavers to enter the wood-based industry.
  2. To provide enhanced knowledge and skills through a structured skills training programme; and
  3. To provide skills and career advancement possibilities in the wood-based industry.

Entry requirements:-

  1. Pass in PMR, SPM, SPMV or its equivalent.
  2. Age between 18 to 30 years.
  3. Has strong interest in the field and has intention to work with the industry.

1. Scheduled Course   
 
  • These are courses are planned on an annual basis to meet the needs of the timber industry in particular at the level of production operators, technicians, supervisors and management.
 
2. Customized Training  
 
  • These are courses offered conducted upon request of certain parties within and outside the country, whether from industry or organization. The courses are regularly organized on request by WISDEC are as follows:/li>
  • Wood ID
  • Wood Technology
  • Wood Anatomy and Identification
  • Wood Machining
  • Furniture Making
 
3. Weekend Course  
 
  • Is a new program introduced by a MTIB specially for local entrepreneurs and also open to anyone interested. In addition, the main objective of the course is to foster public interest in furniture making.
  • This course will only be conducted on Saturday and Sunday only.
