Procedure For Importation
Procedures for importing Round Logs and Large Squares and Scantlings (Custom
Code 44.03)
a)
An importer must be:-
i) Registered
under the Registration of Business Ordinance
1956 or
ii) Registered
under the Companies Act 1965
b)
Application for Approval of Import
Importers
must forward their applications to MTIB Kuala Lumpur at the following
address:-

Importer
must enclose together with their application the following:-
i) A copy
of Certificate of Business Registration issued under the Registration
of Business Ordinance 1956 and a copy of Form B or D in business or
ii) A copy of
"Memorandum and Articles of Assocation", a copy of Form 24 and Form 49 (for
new applications only)
iii) Purpose
of Import
iv) A list
of the species, quantity (in cubic metre of one year estimates) and the
source of the log supply (country of origin); and
v) A letter
of Statutory Oath from importer.
c)Application
for Import Licence
i) Upon
receiving the letter of approval an applicant is required to obtain an
import licence for Round Logs and Large Squares and Scantlings from MTIB's
Headquarters by submitting an import licence form (JK 69) and a declaration
made in the Customs Declaration Form No.1
ii) Every
application for an import licence must be attached a copy of Certificate
of Origin endorsed by a Goverment Agency or any recognised body in the
country of origin
iii)If the
logs to be imported comprises variety of species,a complete list of the
different species must be attached
iv) The
validity period for each import licence is 60 days
d)
Inspection
i)The importer
should subsequently contact the Forestry Department for the issuance of
a Removal Pass before the timber is permitted to be removed from the landing
point
ii) Entry Points
The importation of all timber products can only be carried out through a
sea port or a legal landing point as specified by the Customs Department.
iii) Custom Duties are exempted for the import of round logs and sawn timber
which come under Customs code heading 44.03.
