MTIB Board Members, including the Chairman, are appointed by the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities for a two year term. They represent the Federal and State Governments and recognised timber trade asociations in Malaysia. |

Management Services

Responsible for general administration, procurement, maintenance and managing the finances of MTIB. The division also carries out the planning for human resource requirements, recruitment and selection, as well as undertake capacity building programmes. ICT mangement and support systems are also under the preview of this division. |

Strategic Planning and Corporate Affairs

Monitors the overall development of the timber industry and formulates strategic plans for the industry to attain greater heighs in the era of globalisation and trade liberalisation. Coordinates corporate and management events. |

Trade Development
|
| |
Responsible for the promotion and development of timber trade in both the international and domestic markets. Its main activities include market research, market promotion and marketing, participation in the discussion and negotiation of market access and international trade issues and monitoring the supply of timber resources to the industry. |

Forest Plantation
|
| |
The Forest Plantation Division is responsible for the implementation of the commercial forest plantation programme in Malaysia to ensure a sustainable source of raw material for the timber industry and to ensure that the selected species as well as other appropriate species are planted in forest plantation activities. |

Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development
|
| |
Provides assistance to the Bumiputera in the form of skills training, promotion, smart partnership linkages and also infrastructure development. This includes setting up of furniture promotion centres to assist Bumiputera SMEs to promote and market their furniture in the local market.
The division also manages two wood carving workshops, to impart carving skills to the younger generation and also the general public. To assist in the marketing of carved products, MTIB has establisehd wood carving promotion galleries, namely Wariseni at Bukit Nanas, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur and another outlet at Danga Bay, Johor Bahru. |

Industry Development

The Division undertakes several projects to foster growth as well as to improve the productivity in the timber industry and to encourage value added manufacturing activities. Besides providing technical advisory services to the various sectors of the timber industry, the Timber Verification Serices (TVS) is an avenue for timber consumers to ascertain that timber installed in buildings and homes or the wood products purchased meet quality requirements.
In order to safeguard the interest as well as to ensure the market accessibility of Malaysia timber products, the Division is actively involved in multilevel standardisation activities. A Standard Writing Organisation appointed since May 1999, MTIB has been playing a crucial role in developing national standards on timber and timber products. The Division is also responsible for developing and implementing Quality Assurance Schemes for the timber and processes as well as developing new products to be commercialized. |

Licensing and Enforcement

Responsible for the registration of companies and individuals engaged in export; implementation and enforcement of regulation and procedures in the export and import trade; issuance of export and import licenses of timber and timber products; monitor the implementation of CITES regulations, and supervising and ensuring proper business conduct of the industry. |

Fibre and Biocomposite Development Centre

The newly established centre will assist the industry to establish links and smart pertnerships with universities, research institutes and government departments and agencies to accelerate the aplication of research findings into commercial manufacturing of biocomposite products. |
