FELDA 2.0 TIMBER DESIGN COMPETITION

FELDA 2.0 is foreseen to have the capacity to transform FELDA Lurah Bilut to benefit the young generation socio economics and preventing their migration by incorporating its infrastructure development as well as human capital.

In order to drive Lurah Bilut towards digitalization, an iconic multipurpose building will be built to promote the use of timber in construction in line with world green building concept and practices. To complement the development of FELDA 2.0 in FELDA Lurah Bilut, the construction of children playground is incorporated within the area to encourage a healthy social environment for the community.  

Therefore, FELDA with MTIB will organize FELDA 2.0 Timber Design Competition 2018 (F2.0TDC 2018) to look for the best design. The winning designs hence will be used by FELDA to complete the construction of both buildings in FELDA Lurah Bilut, with funds from CIMB Foundation and FGV.

AIMS

This competition aims to challenge Malaysian designers in producing creative design of an iconic multipurpose building and children’s playground facility using green materials in the design towards providing an environmentally friendly as a unique FELDA 2.0’s landmark through timber utilization.

OBJECTIVES

  • To find the most creative architecture design for FELDA 2.0 through crowd sourcing of national talents;
  • To enhance linkages between higher learning institution, industry players, professionals and related government agencies in promoting the use of timber in construction industry in Malaysia;
  • To challenge the students and professionals from various disciplines to produce outstanding and inspiring timber structures designs, particularly for multipurpose building and children playground.

DESIGN CRITERIA

Each designs are compulsory to submit BOTH design for multipurpose building and children playground

a) Multipurpose building
  • Design a unique of two-to-three-story multipurpose building with a total built-up area of 3,000 square feet to provide exhibition area, mini forestry research station, discussion room, look-out point and toilet on land size area shall not exceed a maximum of 2,000 square feet.
  • Incorporate cutting edge timber product materials and technology. The design must promote timber or any engineered timber products, such as glued laminated timber (glulam), cross laminated timber (CLT), laminated veneer lumber (LVL), and may also include oil palm plywood and oil palm sawn timber as the main structural members in combination with other building materials. The design has to incorporate a minimum of 70% timber structural members with justification on the selected timber/timber products.
  • Provide elemental cost estimate and brief specifications of the design, including the total volume of timber used in the design.
b) Children Playground (for age’s limit 5 to 12)
  • Design ONE unit of modern and exhilarating outdoor playground that incorporates a minimum of three functional equipment (e.g. slide, swing, monkey bar, etc.) to create interactive and thrilling experience for users. The design should be incorporated with landscaping.
  • Timber is the main construction material, but combination with other material is allowed, such as steel and plastic.
  • Provide elemental cost estimate and brief specifications of the design, including the total volume of timber used in the design.
