DISTRIBUTION

Found in lowland forests.

  

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The sapwood is not well-defined. Heartwood is light yellow-brown, occasionally with a pink tinge.

Grain is straight or shallowly interlocked.

Texture is moderately fine and even.

Growth rings are occasionally present, demarcated by layers of thicker-walled fibres.

Vessels are moderately small to medium-sized, moderately few, solitary or in radial groups of two to four.

Wood parenchyma is present in narrow, closely spaced apotracheal bands.

Rays are very fine.

 

USES

Used for the manufacture of match splints and has also been found to be very suitable for packing cases and wooden sandals.
