DISTRIBUTION

Widely planted in plantation forest of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The sapwood is pale yellow to straw-coloured while the heartwood is pinkish brown to dark brown.

Grain is straight to shallowly interlocked.

Texture is moderately fine and even.

Growth rings are indistinct but visible in mangium species.

Vessels are large-sized and distinct to naked eye, evenly distributed. Parenchyma is not abundant, around the pores and very occasionally in irregular band.

Rays are small, invisible to barely visible to naked eye as individual rays.

Ripple marks are absent. 

 

USES

Used for furniture and cabinet making, light construction, mouldings, flooring, sport equipment and general utility purposes.
