Found in lowland to mountain forests.
 
 
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The sapwood is pink-brown or red-brown and is lighter in colour than the heartwood, which is pink-brown, red-brown or purple-brown, sometimes with a grey tinge.
 
Texture is fine and even.
 
Grain is interlocked and sometimes wavy.
 
Growth rings are absent.
 
Vessels are moderately numerous to numerous, small to medium-sized; exclusively solitary with a strong tendency towards arrangement in tangential groups; tyloses common and white deposits abundant.
 
Wood parenchyma is sparse, visible only with a hand lens; paratracheal, occurring as incomplete or narrow borders around vessels with a tendency towards the aliform type.
 
Rays are very fine, not visible to the naked eye. Not conspicuous on radial surface.
 
Ripple marks are absent.
 
Intercellular canals are absent.
 
USES
Possible uses include all heavy construction, piling, pots, tool and handles manufacture, boat framing and other marine construction. Also suitable for heavy duty flooring and power transmission poles.
