DISTRIBUTION

Commonly found in lowland forests, undulating land, secondary forests and hills.

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The sapwood is not well-defined from the heartwood, which is brown to red-brown with a purple tinge.

Grain is straight or interlocked.

Texture is fine and even.

Vessels are moderately small to just medium-sized, moderately few to moderately numerous and mostly in radial groups of two to four. Vessels may be open and filled with gum-like deposits or with tyloses.

Wood parenchyma is abundant, of apotracheal type in narrow regularly spaced bands and conspicuous on all surfaces.

Rays are fine, barely visible to the naked eye. 

 

USES:

Suitable for heavy and medium construction, posts, tool handles, wooden pallets, flooring, door and window frames, interior finishing and furniture.
