DISTRIBUTION

Found in hills to mountains near streams.

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The sapwood is grey white or pink, and is sharply differentiated from the heartwood which is light red or red brown.

Texture is moderately coarse and uneven due to ring-porous structure.

Grain is interlocked or wavy.

Growth rings are present and distinct to the naked eye due to its ring-porous structure.

Vessels of the pore-ring large, the remainder medium-sized; few; solitary and in radial groups of two to three. Deposits are present occasionally dark-coloured and gum-like. Tyloses are scarce.

Wood parenchyma is scarce; in terminal layers and vasicentric, forming narrow borders to the vessels.

Rays are fine to medium sized; distinct to the naked eye.

Ripple marks are absent.

Intercellular canals of the traumatic type are occasionally present. 

 

USES

A high class cabinet wood, suitable for furniture, interior finishing, decorative panelling, fancy articles, cigar boxes, veneers, packing cases and light construction.
