DISTRIBUTION

It is being planted through out Malaysia. It performs well only on fresh, well-drained fertile soils.

  

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The sapwood is whitish, sometimes with a greenish or yellowish tinge. Demarcation between the heartwood and sapwood indistinct. The heartwood is light brown to yellowish-brown, sometimes with a pinkish tinge.

Texture is moderately coarse but even.

Grain is straight to moderately interlocked or wavy.

Growth rings are generally not distinct.

Vessels are diffuse, solitary and in radial multiples of three to six, solitary and in radial multiples of two to four, occasionally with narrow vessels between the larger ones. Deposits are absent. Tyloses are abundant.

Wood parenchyma is paratracheal, usually vasicentric and partly aliform, rarely confluent, and apotracheally diffuse.

Rays are moderately fine and visible to the naked eye.

Ripple marks are absent.

Intercellular canals are absent.

USES

The wood is suitable for general utility purposes, especially light construction and structural work, general carpentry, packaging, carvings, utility furniture with excellent woodworking properties.
