DISTRIBUTION

Found mainly on the west coast of Sabah and Sarawak.

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The sapwood is yellowish and sharply defined from the heartwood, which is brown with a distinct reddish tinge.

Grain is fairly straight.

Texture is moderately fine and even

Vessels are with simple perforations, few in number and moderately large, solitary and in groups of two or three and evenly distributed. Tyloses are abundant.

Wood parenchyma is conspicuous; apotracheal type occurs as narrow, occasional straight lines; paratracheal type as vasicentric to aliform, and sometimes confluent.

Rays are fine.

 

USES

Used for heavy construction, boat construction, posts and shingles. It is a popular substitute for the more durable Belian.
