BOTANICAL NAME

Albizia spp. (excluding A. splendens) and Paraserianthes falcataria 

DISTRIBUTION

Widely planted in plantation forest of Sabah and Sarawak.

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The sapwood is not differentiated from the heartwood, which is white to light brown with a pink tinge.

Grain is deeply interlocked and wary.

Texture is coarse and even.

Growth rings indistinct.

Vessels medium-sized to moderately large; very few or few; solitary and in radial groups of two to three.

Wood parenchyma is scanty, paratracheal, vasicentric and diffuse.

Rays are fine just visible to the naked eye.

Ripple marks are absent. 

 

USES

Greatly used for light furniture and furniture component, panelling, interior trim, lightweight packing material such as packages, boxes, crates and pallets. Well-known source for matches, veneer, plywood, MDF, hardboard, blockboard and manufacture of pulp and paper.
