DISTRIBUTION

Widely distributed in peat swamp forests in Sarawak.

  

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The sapwood is light greyish brown, and merges gradually with the heartwood which is deep reddish brown. White coloured streaks of resin canals on the surface are conspicuous.

Grain is slightly interlocked.

Texture is coarse and even.

Vessels are mostly solitary and in a loose oblique arrangement, medium to moderately large in size; tyloses fairly abundant.

Wood parenchyma is indistinct, generally surrounding the vessels, sometimes diffuse.

Rays are medium-sized, light brown in colour.

Vertical canals are in tangential series; diameter of canals smaller than that of the vessels. 

 

USES

Used for heavy and medium construction, boat construction, flooring, interior finishing, panelling, furniture and joinery.
