BOTANICAL NAME

Albizia splendens

DISTRIBUTION

Found scattered in the lowland forests.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The sapwood is well-defined from the heartwood, which is light red-brown when fresh, darkening on exposure to a deep shade of brown.

Grain is slightly interlocked and sometimes wavy.

Texture is moderately coarse but even.

Vessels are with simple perforations, generally moderately large or very large, very few or few in number, solitary and in radial pairs and multiples of two to four; the solitary vessels may be fewer or more than the multiple vessels, often arranged in tangential lines; characteristically with deposits.

Wood parenchyma is paratracheal, as broad sheaths to the vessels and tending to aliform and often forming locally confluent layers.

Rays are fine or moderately fine, usually visible only with a hand lens.

USES

Suitable for high class cabinet work, superior joinery, furniture, musical instruments, panelling, fancy boxes, carving and veneer.
