DISTRIBUTION

Found on rich alluvial soils near rivers and often forms almost pure stands on the banks of the more sluggish streams in the east coast of Sabah. It also occurs on good soils on damp well-drained hillsides.

 

GENERAL DISCRIPTION

The sapwood is white with a greyish tinge and moderately well-defined from the heartwood, which is buff to pale brown or sometimes pinkish brown.

Grain is interlocked.

Texture is moderately coarse to coarse.

Vessels are medium to moderately large in size, mostly solitary but radial multiples of up to three occur, particularly in ring porous material; tendency to arrange in oblique rows.

Wood parenchyma consists of both paratracheal parenchyma, as narrow borders to vessels and diffuse apotracheal parenchyma.

Rays are mostly medium-sized and light yellow in colour on end-grain. 

 

USES

Suitable for light construction, plywood, packing cases, concrete shuttering, joinery and match boxes.
