DISTRIBUTION

Found in all altitudes from sea-level up to mountain tops.

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The sapwood is not well-defined from the heartwood, which is light brown, pink-brown, red-brown or purple-brown with a grey tinge.

Grain is interlocked, irregular or wavy.

Texture is moderately fine and even.

Vessels are moderately small to medium-sized and with simple perforations, moderately numerous and fairly evenly distributed, mostly in radial multiples of two to eight. Tyloses vary from sparse to fairly abundant and occasionally with deposits.

Wood parenchyma is only of the paratracheal type, ranging from scant aliform to fairly well-defined aliform or confluent.

Rays are very fine to moderately fine, barely visible to the naked eye.


USES

Suitable for posts, beams, joists, rafters, door and window frames, bridges, wharves and agricultural implements.
