  1. Ensure that applications for registration as exporters, suppliers, processor,graders and jetty operators are approved within 3 days of receipt of the applications;
  2. Ensure that applications for the renewal of registration are approved within 2 days of receipt of the complete applications;
  3. Ensure that each application for the renewal of export and import licenses are processed online and approved within 30 minutes of receipt;
  4. Carry out timber inspection services on export consignments on the date of inspection requested, provided the application is received at least a day prior to the inspection date;
  5. Ensure full payment is made within 12 days after receipt of invoices;
  6. Conduct the Timber Verification Service in the period not exceeding 3 days after receipt of application;and
  7. Provide feedback to all trade inquiries received within 2 days.

BACKGROUND

The Malaysian Timber Industry Board Act 1973 (Act 105) was gazetted on 12 April 1973 and enforced since 1 Jun 1973 . The Act outlines the legal provisions for MTIB to conduct its activities for the development of the Malaysian timber industry.

POWERS OF THE BOARD

The Act grants specific powers that allows MTIB to carry out its functions:

  • Powers under Section 12(2) Act 105 :
    • To enter into such negotiations and agreements or arrangements as the Board considers necessary for carrying out its functions and for the promotion of the general interests of the timber industry and trade;
    • To undertake marketing of timber on behalf of the small-scale timber industries;
    • To set up and maintain such establishments as the Board considers necessary for the discharge of its functions; and
    • To appoint committees
  • Power to establish a corporation under Section 12(3) Act 105.
  • Power to establish a company (Companies Act 1965) under Section 12(5) Act 105.
  • Power under Section 20A Act 105 to impose and collect fees and any charges in respect of any technical advisory services or other services provided by the Board.
  • Power to compound any offence under Act 105 (Section 30B).
