  • What is The Wood-Based Industry Apprenticeship Scheme (Furniture) and how to participate in the programme? +

    The apprentice programme is for PMR/SPM holders to pursue a training course in the production of wooden furniture. The 16-month programme, comprising theory and on-the-job training, prepares a trainee for a career in the wood-based manufacturing sector, specifically in furniture production, armed with the specific skills and technical knowledge. Training is conducted in WISDEC and at participating furniture plants.

    In order to design the timber structure in Malaysia, our engineer will   refer MS 544: Code of Practice for the Structural Use of Timber: Part 1: General, Part 2: Permissible Stress Design of Solid Timber and Part 3: Permissible Stress Design of Glued Laminated Timber.   • What is Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB)? +

    MTIB is a statutory body accredited to the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Malaysia. Established on 1st June 1973 by an Act of Parliament ( Act 105), Malaysian Timber Industry Board (Incorporation ) Act, 1973, it has been accorded as the lead agency to enhance the development of the Malaysian timber industry. It has ten divisions namely the Trade Development, Industry Development & Research, Licensing & Enforcement, Bumiputra Entrepreneur Development, Strategic Planning, Administration & Finance, Human Resource Management, Forest Plantation, Information & Communication Technology and Public Relations and Corporate Communication. It has a total manpower of 443 employees.

    • To further enhance the industrialisation and up-grading of the timber industry with emphasis on value-added processing;

    Sawntimber, blockboard, chipboard, particleboard, plywood, veneer, woodchips, moulding, building, carpentary and joinery, dressed timber and all other products as listed under the Malaysian Timber Industry Board (Incorporation) Act 1973 (Schedule 1, Section 2).   • What is Timber Information Exchange Services (TIES)? +

    Being the development agency for the Malaysian timber industry, Timber Information Exchange Service (TIES) is another service which MTIB provides to the industry. It links interested buyers with local suppliers. Potential buyers could save time and cost as MTIB helps to identify relevant suppliers for products of their interest. In addition, such enquiries will also be circulated to companies which are interested to seek and explore new market opportunities.

    To be included in the circulation list of all enquiries received, local suppliers and exporters are invited to subscribe to the TIES. Now, it is open to all Malaysian Exporters and Suppliers.
