    Trade Development Division:
    Trade development, market research, promotion and marketing advisory services.

    Industry Development Division:
    Technical advisory, training/skills upgrading, monitoring worldwide standards and standards writing, and timber verification services.

    Licensing & Enforcement Division:
    Regulation of trade, issuance of export licences, processing import approvals , and inspection services

    Strategic Planning and Corporate Affairs Division:
    Collating and disseminating statistical records and information on the timber industry, monitoring the development of the timber industry and formulating strategic industrial/organisational plans for the overall betterment of the timber industry.  Fostering goodwill with the public as well as promoting a better understanding of MTIB's operations.

    Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development Division
    Coordinate development activities for Bumiputera companies in the manufacturing and marketing of thier products.

    Forest Plantation Division
    Coordinate the implementation of forest plantation programmes and related activites.

    Management Services  Division
    Planning and managing human resource aspect of the organisation.General administration, human resource management, procurement and managing the finances of MTIB.

    Information Technology Division
    Providing technical assistance for proper peripheral and software maintenance and information system development.

    Accelerate the application of research findings into commercial manufacturing of biocomposite products.

    1. Products

    Timber products which are meant for the export market:

    Sawntimber, blockboard, chipboard, particleboard, plywood, veneer, woodchips, moulding, building, carpentary and joinery, dressed timber and all other products as listed under the Malaysian Timber Industry Board (Incorporation) Act 1973 (Schedule 1, Section 2).   • What is Timber Information Exchange Services (TIES)? +

    Being the development agency for the Malaysian timber industry, Timber Information Exchange Service (TIES) is another service which MTIB provides to the industry. It links interested buyers with local suppliers. Potential buyers could save time and cost as MTIB helps to identify relevant suppliers for products of their interest. In addition, such enquiries will also be circulated to companies which are interested to seek and explore new market opportunities.

    To be included in the circulation list of all enquiries received, local suppliers and exporters are invited to subscribe to the TIES. Now, it is open to all Malaysian Exporters and Suppliers. For those interested to access TIES, please apply your User ID and Password by filling the TIES Subscription Form. THERE IS NO FEE CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE. Click here to login

  • What is the Malaysian Grading Rules(MGR)? +

    MGR is the grading system for Malaysian hardwood sawntimber for the export market. The system is internationally recognised. For more details on MGR, refer to MTIB publications - The Malaysian Grading Rules for Sawn Hardwood Timber, 1984 Edition.

  • What is Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB)? +

    MTIB is a statutory body accredited to the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Malaysia. Established on 1st June 1973 by an Act of Parliament ( Act 105), Malaysian Timber Industry Board (Incorporation ) Act, 1973, it has been accorded as the lead agency to enhance the development of the Malaysian timber industry. It has ten divisions namely the Trade Development, Industry Development & Research, Licensing & Enforcement, Bumiputra Entrepreneur Development, Strategic Planning, Administration & Finance, Human Resource Management, Forest Plantation, Information & Communication Technology and Public Relations and Corporate Communication. It has a total manpower of 443 employees.

  • What are the objectives of MTIB? +

    MTIB's objectives are as follows:

    • To further enhance the industrialisation and up-grading of the timber industry with emphasis on value-added processing;
    • To promote and improve the markets and marketing of timber products;
    • To facilitate development of SMEs;
    • To develop and promote standards for the manufacture of quality timber products;
    • To foster orderliness in the timber trade.

    Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) is a government promotional agency that responsible for initiating development of the various sectors of the timber industry and providing technical, marketing and other forms of assistance to ensure continued growth within a rapidly industrialising Malaysian economy. Our functions include:

    *to regulate and control the trade in, and the marketing and distribution of timber, and

    *to promote and improve, the trade in, and markets for timber.

  1. Ensure that applications for registration as exporters, suppliers, processor,graders and jetty operators are approved within 3 days of receipt of the applications;
  2. Ensure that applications for the renewal of registration is approved within 2 days of receipt of the complete applications;
  3. Ensure that each application for the renewal of export and import licenses are processed online and approved within 30 minutes of receipt;
  4. Carry out timber inspection services on export consignments on the date of inspection requested, provided the application is received at least a day prior to the inspection date;
  5. Ensure full payment is made within 12 days after receipt of invoices;
  6. Conduct the Timber Verification Service in the period not exceeding 10 days after receipt of application;and
  7. Provide feedback to all trade inquiries received within 2 days.
